I began my chemo during the shelter in place order. All hair salons etc. were closed. I had been told with my chemo I would lose my hair within 14-21 days. I didn't want to wear a turban or scarf, I wanted to wear a wig. I found Barbara's web site and emailed her. I am a thrifty shopper and after spending 3 months shopping on line for the right hair piece I was so exhausted and frustrated with all the choices, it is very difficult to know what you are getting by looking at a monitor screen. After returning 4 different toppers I happened upon Barbara's website and decided to give her a call. That was it! I was shocked when I heard that it would be a year before I could have my first haircut after a StemCell Transplant. My husband suggested that I get a wig. When I purchased my topper a few weeks ago, I received little training on how to wear and properly take care of it. Though I tried wearing it a few times, I was not completely happy. I felt it needed to blend in more naturally and feel more securely attached when I wore it.

I met with my oncologist shortly after my breast cancer surgery and broke down in tears when she told me the treatment would cause me to lose my hair. First, my breast now my hair, the thought was almost unbearable. I am a private and capable person and feared others seeing me in such a state would tell the world of my disease, a disease I intend to beat, the unbearable sympathy and pity which the loss of my hair would evoke. At my first meeting with Barbara Cameron she hugged me and reassured me that it would be all right. To my great relief, Barbara took me through the process of hair loss. She was so knowledgeable and informative. Barbara recommended a wig that was so close to my natural hair that people would not notice. As I began to lose my hair, Barbara stayed late and carefully trimmed my hair to a short, “pixie cut” so that it would not be so traumatic and I could see how it would look as it began to grow out again. She fitted and trimmed my wig and taught me not only how to care for the hairpiece but how I could wear hats and scarves and still look natural. As I left her shop that day, I was so happy to look like me, and know that I would be able to look better than I feel. We ended our session that evening with a hug, reassured in the knowledge that my dignity was safe. Since our last meetings I have received numerous compliments about my beautiful new hair style and how nice I look. Unexpected benefits of what I anticipated would be a traumatic experience. As soon as we spoke on the phone, I knew I had found the right person to help me find the perfect wig. I had just started chemotherapy and wanted to be prepared for the hair loss. Barb was so knowledgeable and helpful on the phone and in person. She immediately made room for me in her schedule. She is a pro and during the whole process of finding a wig I liked, a transitional haircut, and then styling the wig while I wore it and gave her feedback, she made me feel comfortable and happy. Barb has great positive energy and gave me careful but easy to understand instructions about proper wig handling, cleaning and tips about how to put it on correctly. My husband came with me and he thought she was terrific too. She cut my shoulder length hair into a very stylish pixie cut that will be much easier to deal with when the hair loss comes in a week or two. Barb has a private upstairs room in her salon where you can try on the wigs and get your hair cut and styled. She was efficient with her time but never rushed me. I ended up with a stylish wig, a hat with hair, a couple of wig stands, a bamboo sleeping hat, and the different products I will need to keep the wigs clean. I was diagnosed with cancer and told I would have to have chemo that would cause hair loss. I found Barbara on line after looking at retail shops and many online sites to order wigs and did not feel comfortable ordering that way. She was just wonderful in getting right back to me and reassuring me, when she could tell how stressed I was. She bent over backwards to schedule me in as I was traveling from a distance. She found the perfect wig for me and styled it beautifully! Any follow up questions I've had she has answered immediately. Today was my first day back at work after getting my wig and all my co-workers kept telling what a cute haircut I had gotten! I had to tell people it was a wig. I came to Barb for a repair job. I had purchased a wig elsewhere (I didn't know Barb at the time) and wasn't happy with it. I felt it looked like a helmet. I was fortunate to get a referral to Barb who graciously made some changes that improved the wig. I still wasn't happy and brought it back for further tweaks when Barb offered me a different wig, which I liked a lot. She then styled it to suit my face and it looked adorable. It's a different hairstyle for me which is great because I'd had the same look for years. Change is good! For several years after developing alopecia I attempted to artfully style my hair in an attempt to conceal an ever progressing loss of hair. I was diagnosed with breast cancer. After surgery, I began chemo. I had long, extremely thick hair before chemo. A person's hair helps define their personality. It is such an integral part of who they are. I didn't want to lose it. But, when it started massively falling out I knew I had to get busy.
I began looking around for wigs. I found Barbara online. She was so caring and reassuring when I called, I just relaxed knowing she was the one to help me. She gave me an appointment at the end of her day and spent over two hours helping me understand hair loss, fitting me for a wig, etc. She helped me find that perfect wig that transitions me from "me" to the new "me." It is beautiful. She also taught me how to care for the wig and styled it to my face. She gave me lots of tips for the future as my hair grows back and offered to be available for any future questions or needs. Barbara is so caring, kind, compassionate and talented that she made a my initial visit a positive experience. When my hair started falling out late on a Friday, I quickly ordered a wig online. Barbara was able to customize the wig and make it work for me. She educated me as to it's care to keep it looking good. During my original consultation with Barbara she helped me pick out a wig that I think makes me look a lot better than I look with my "real" hair! She told me to call her when my hair started to fall out, and I did. She took me the next day, cut my hair very short and spent a lot of quality time explaining how to care for the wig, showed me how to put it on, and I must say she made me feel like losing my hair was anything but a tragedy - ha! For me the worst aspect of being a cancer patient undergoing chemo is the hair loss. With hair loss you can't hide your diagnosis from the world. Barbara has been my blessing in all aspects of dealing with losing my hair. Beyond the knowledge that Barbara brings to women with hair loss is Barbara's compassion and commitment. She has given up her evenings, Saturdays and Sundays to help women dealing with hair loss. I loved the short hair cut Barbara gave me as I started the transition to my hair falling out. Barbara spent several hours with me and my daughter as I tried on wigs and when I received my wig she again spent several hours making sure it looked just right on me and I was educated on how to care for the wig. If it wasn't for Barbara I don't know how else I would have navigated this unfortunate side effect of chemotherapy.
My hair has been thinning for years but particularly after menopause has become so thin and fine it's almost impossible to style. I dreaded the morning shower and having to deal with the hour plus it would take to coax my hair into something presentable. Not to mention the fact that I was spending $150 every six weeks for cut and color and still didn't like the way it looked. Finally, after months of googling my options, I made an appointment with Barbara Cameron to discuss a hair topper. Possibly the best decision I've ever made. Barbara is very knowledgeable about toppers/ and is also a genuinely nice, caring person. She just happened to have a topper in a color that works well with mine so we put it on, she trimmed it up to match my natural haircut and less than two hours later I walked out feeling like a new woman! This topper has been life-changing! It's so easy to put on, I literally can't feel that I'm wearing anything and it absolutely looks like my own hair but much better. A good friend of over 25 years didn't even notice that I had it on, just thought my hair looked good. My boyfriend's comment was that I look 10 years younger, he couldn't stop smiling at me. It is sooo liberating to know that my morning hair routine is now down to brushing my natural hair and putting on my topper. 5 - 10 minutes max. I'll be saving so much money on the pricey haircuts/color, I've already made an appointment with Barbara to get a second topper as backup (I wear mine hiking and during a lot of outdoor activities so it gets a lot of wear and tear). I'm looking forward to growing my hair longer again, something I haven't been able to do in years, and having fun with longer topper styles. Barbara Cameron is a very knowledgable professional who recently welcomed me into her beautiful salon in San Rafael. In a lovely private setting, she helped me select a very flattering and stylish wig to ease me through the toughest part of chemotherapy. Her warm and caring demeanor instantly made me feel comfortable. She patiently showed me many styles and helped me try them on. She explained the differences in wigs and how to care for them. I was able to take a wig home that same day and I am very pleased!

The Cameron Salon is the life safer of my best friend. Her hair was coming out by clumps and she did not want to go out in public.....a self imposed agoraphophic... This Salon, recommended by many said, walk in and walk out transformed. When I was diagnosed with cancer, I assumed the treatment would be the most difficult part of the process - until I lost my hair. My hair had thinned to the point that it was practically nonexistent. I found Barbara's salon and was amazed how much easier she made the process, due to her warm, supportive manner and her knowledge about wigs. She sold me a wig that was the color and texture of my hair, and styled it several times without charge until it looked similar to my real hair. A few weeks later, Barbara called me to say that she had found a human hair wig at the Cancer Society that was really close to the color my hair had been and had put it on hold for me. The wig was lovely and Barbara once again styled that wig for me and would not take any payment for doing so. I have been cancer free for nearly a year and Barbara has cut, conditioned and brought my own hair back to pre chemo condition. I appreciate all that Barbara has done to boost my self image and self-esteem through this difficult process. Anyone with hair loss would be lucky to work with such a knowledgeable and compassionate wig and hair stylist.
Barbara is wonderful! I met her when she volunteered at Look Good - Feel Better. I was in the middle of chemo treatment and had bought a wig in another salon which was not cut well. I made an appointment with Barbara and she restyled the wig beautifully. Her enthusiasm, compassion and great humor added to a wonderful experience. I lost my hair from chemo, but I'm looking good! Thanks to Barbara -- she is a treasure, unique, I doubt anyone in the sate of California could find you a better wig that suits you than her. There are SO many wig manufacturers out there, she has learned which have the best fit and quality. She quickly showed me several that were hard to choose from, and then cut and styled the chosen wig to look even better. I also got makeup tips and other advice that were invaluable. I expected the whole thing to be traumatic, she cut off much of my long hair, but I emerged feeling great, and better yet, looking great in my new wig. Also, if you buy a wig on your own, there's a good chance it won't fit your head, it's nice to get measured first.

When I requested an expensive, natural hair wig in a style similar to my own, Barbara patiently and deftly steered me towards a much less costly wig in a sophisticated style at a much lower cost. I cannot tell you how many times (a day) I am complemented on my "new haircut." Everyone asks where I had it done and complements the "fabulous" style and color. No one is slightly aware that it is a wig and those whom I tell are shocked to know it is not my hair! I had been diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. Barbara made time to see me immediately and helped to ease my fears. We tried on wigs and she helped me select a perfect match for me. Barbara is a Godsend. After realizing I would lose my hair during cancer treatments, I decided to get ahead of the game and shop for a wig. Barbara was recommended to me and the highlight of my otherwise scary future. She took the time needed to assure me and pointed me in the right direction on choices.
